Brandon Boyd on the Musicians' Institute Conversation Series

For those who missed Brandon's talk with the Musicians' Institute in Hollywood, MI has been good enough to put the video recording of the interview up on their Livestream to watch for free. It is unfortunately fragmented into several different files, so here is a list of clips to watch, in order, to get the whole interview:

Please ignore this if you read this. I'm just ranting.

What advice do you have for up and coming musicians?

[...]¨Tenacity and Luck¨ [...]¨I'm not one to say that everthing happens for a reason, that is a little too general, but I enjoyed the fact that everything, good, bad, ugly, beautiful, whatever has led me to where we are right now.¨  -GAA!! ¨A little too general??¨ And saying that it was ¨luck¨ NOT a little too general?! Do you even listen to yourself? And you think this doesn't sound contradictory??

How is dealing with fame the last 20 years in your life? How do you deal with it?

-¨Denial¨ -Too bad because it could potentially be used for good. ¨[...]There are fruits to be picked of this whole fame thing...¨ -Ew, your package is not a fruit! ¨[...]It derails people.¨ -True, it's not easy to handle.

How has Social Media changed the way you engage with your fans? Twitter? Facebook? Has it made it more personal?

¨[...] I kinda liken it to, uh, it's almost like an awakening, in a way, you know. When someone is in pursuit of like God or Universe or something for so long they've had to go like through a priest, a middle man, you know what I mean? For their communion with The All. And, uh, then recently there's been people who've started to realize that like they are god and all of us or everything is god, it's all about the middle man gets stripped away, it's kinda like what is happening with technology, [...]¨  -This saddens me and enrages me to the upmost. Does he even realize that he is preaching? Seriously, why did you have to go and respond in this manner to such a simple question? Where do I begin? AAAH! *signs* THE MIDDLE MAN IS OUT NOT BECAUSE OF TECHNOLOGY OR US OR EVERYTHING BUT BECAUSE OF JESUS. WE ALL ARE PRIESTS IN A WAY THANKS TO THE SACRIFICE AT THE CROSS WHICH CREATED A DIRECT LINK TO COMMUNICATE WITH GOD (¨A TWITTER,¨ IF YOU WILL, DIRECTED TO GOD), BUT WE ARE NOT GODS BECAUSE WE ARE -SAD, BUT TRUE- JUST HUMANS!!! *takes a big breath, inhale, exhale* ...okay, so, yeah, sad, because Satan wants you to think that way, and you just went along with this big prank that he's pulling on the whole world. Go ahead, believe what you want, we'll  see in the end who's right.

Where do you get your lyrics from?

¨[...] People call it the ether...¨ -I call it the Holy Spirit.

¨[...]And then you saw us and you were like: Noooooo¨ -Haha, made me laugh!

¨[...]Make room for her (the muse)¨ -I actually found that beautiful.

¨I would say make your own path. [...] Do your best to take your own.¨

-Yay; I agree about something with him.

¨[...]Basically there is one story throughout all of human history. And Joseph Campbell identified it. It's esentially called The Hero's Journey. And it's one story that has made up every world religion, every world philosophy as long as we've been alive[...]¨ -Uuuummmmm, no. Getting close to preaching again, but I'll relax and say that he is not. I'll just say that I disagree, as well as other scholors do too.
