The organizations to which you can donate your hair (such as Locks of Love and Beautiful Lengths) have various requirements for making donations, including guidelines for how long the hair has to be. If you've decided to get involved, feel free to post pictures of your hair, and/or measurements of length, at regular intervals (weekly, monthly, your choice), so we can be inspired by each other's progress. When you're ready to donate, there are also various guidelines for how to cut and package the hair. Post photos of your haircut too, so we can see the fruits of your effort!

Permalink Reply by Vicky Paige on July 7, 2012 at 2:52pm Okay, here's my "before" photo. I went and had my hair colored today (just colored, mind you - not cut) and asked my stylist to take a picture while it was still wet to show the length. As you can see, I have quite a way to go before I'll be ready to donate, but I'm determined if you are!
(By the way - if, like me, you dye your hair, make sure you check the website of the organization you're donating to for guidelines about color.)
Permalink Reply by Samantha Jade McCracken on July 7, 2012 at 6:19pm I've been growing my hair since 2008 and it fell to my lower back, and I'm proud to say I just cut it to my chin and donated it!
This picture was taken last September, so you can imagine that it's certainly grown longer since then, but this is the best picture I had of it before cutting it.
And this is after. My hair stylist is fantastic and my hair's been donated through her!
Permalink Reply by Vicky Paige on July 7, 2012 at 8:27pm Wow! It's great to see how cute your hair looks now that you've cut it - very reassuring for those of us who might be a little hesitant to go short again after taking so much time to grow it out (even though it's for a good cause). Thank you so much for sharing these photos!

Permalink Reply by Vicky Paige on July 16, 2012 at 1:54pm Wow, you weren't kidding when you said your hair was curly! :-) You might want to check the guidelines for the organization to which you want to donate. According to Locks of Love, curly hair can be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches. I didn't see anything pertaining to curly hair in the guidelines for Beautiful Lengths, but they have a phone number you can call to speak with a representative who can probably advise you. I keep mentioning these two organizations only because they're the only ones I know about. There may be other reputable groups our members can suggest.
Permalink Reply by Debra (Debbie) Wilson on July 16, 2012 at 10:20pm Ok, so LOL would like at least 10 inches of your ponytailed/braided hair and BL/Pantene, at least 8 inches of ponytailed hair. No bleached or highlighted hair. Colored or permed hair is OK for LOL, but NOT for BL. No more than 5% gray for BL. There is no maximum length! Good Luck everyone! And that includes you, Brandon! <3

Permalink Reply by Debra (Debbie) Wilson on October 24, 2012 at 8:39pm I just had my daughter trim 5 inches off today. I had been needing a trim since before this forum started! But now it's all one length and it grows pretty fast! It's still fairly long tho'; about the middle of my shoulder blades. Soooooo, I need to grow at least 5-6" before the donation! :)
Permalink Reply by Vicky Paige on October 24, 2012 at 8:53pm I bet you'll be our first donor! Thanks for staying with it. :-)
