I think it's also because as believers in Christ we are given full assurance that what we first believed in will always be true and unshakable. So no matter how influenced we are by other things/religions/beliefs we always have that confidence in Jesus Christ. As Paul says in Romans 8:38-39 nothing will ever separate us from Christ's love.

That's true Shannon! The more I try to see other perspectives, and other points of view, the more certain I become of my faith. I don't know why... It's like you said, I become more sure of the things that I do believe in. :)

Thank you. I definitely see where you're coming from. I hope for the same thing you do. I believe that Brandon has said he is agnostic. But Incubus seems to be great people, and I really don't think they would ever be too critical of anyone, especially fans. It's so great to not have to be disappointed by my favorite being jerks! I always pray for their music making. I am glad that there are so many different colors of people though because it has made me always look at both sides of every arguement. I think it makes me more sure of the things that I do strongly believe in.

I view christianity in the same way as you Shannon. But I really hope that the band doesn't view it in a narrow-minded and stereotypical way. I'd like to think that they are not the kind that puts everybody under the same label. That's why I think the lyrics of Thieves must be something specific, and not general, like what you mentioned about the "way out there kind of people." On the other hand, I don't believe there is nothing wrong with fearing God, or being whatever color you are. I guess what I am saying is that perhaps he could have said it in a different manner. Perhaps it was too much of a generalization. But I give the guy credit for believing in the law of love, and leading by example, which I have heard him in certain interviews say. I don't know what the guys believe in, but I do know that love is all over the Bible, even though some people might not see it. I appreciate reading your answer Shannon! God Bless!

The thing that kinda sucks is that Christianity is mainly stereotyped as a religion, and that the "religious" people are the ones that stand on milk crates with bullhorns and broadcast to everyone that if they don't repent of their sins, especially things like homosexuality, that they're automatically going to hell. They're not accepting of other people who don't believe. Since these people are the most outgoing about their beliefs everyone automatically assumes that this is what all Christians are like. Obviously we're not! But I can't blame people for being turned off because that's all they know about it.
I think that's the kind of people Brandon's talking about when he says "God-fearing white American". I can understand where he's coming from, because these people think that they're the only ones that can be happy and that they're "sheltered and immune" and everyone else is going to hell. I don't know if that's how he sees all Christians or not, but he's definitely aware of the religous people.
For me, I take Christianity as a faith-based relationship with God. I don't consider myself a religious person at all. Religion is just going through the motions, and I don't think that's what it should ever be like. I feel like our personal mission on Earth is just to try our darndest to love everyone, the way Jesus did. And that's what I try to do. I try to respect other people's beliefs whether or not they respect mine, and judging someone is the last thing I would do. Whether or not Brandon or the other guys believe the same things as me, I strongly agree with most of the things Brandon has ever said, and that's why I admire Incubus so much. They have such a great awareness of the world, they seem like generally nice people, and I love their music! I would love to meet them someday.
I realize that was a little lengthy but I just had to get my two cents in. You guys are awesome and thank you for creating a group like this! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. May God bless the poop out of you all :D

Personally, the concept of a "God fearing white american" is almost painfully stereotypical and quite frankly narrowminded when it comes to defining what Christianity really is all about. Nevertheless, I don't know at all what the lyrics are trying to say. This might be a personal issue with someone or maybe some kind of past experience that was hurtful. I honestly cannot see the connection of "Thieves" with "God fearing white american." I cannot make a sound judgement on the lyrics of this song because it's too subjective and may very well be more of a "feeling" than a "theological statement."

Hey I don't know what you guys think about 'Thieves' on the new album but I believe it is a backhanded slight toward Christianity. This wouldn't be the first time. It just seems like this new album is full of "alternative" views on certain issues.
