hello World (mainly Incubus fans tho)

If you are like me and you too are a huge admirer, supporter, and listener of this amazing band - BUT listened to their latest album (INN,W?) a little earlier than you should have - AND regret that decision - cleanse your conscience by expressing your remorse here. Trust me, I already feel better - and I have no clue if anyone will ever read this. It's the least - and probably the most - I can do after making a poor choice and receiving so much subconscious and conscious mental therapy through their music. It has rescued me in several situations - as with many other artists'. Hopefully I won't be prosecuted though....

ANYWAYS...here's my rant: I initially wasn't going to go to any length to find and download their album from the internet. I prefer to buy music and pay artists who have gone to the painstaking length to master, create, and share their music. I have bought all of Incubus' albums to date. Obviously I had been anticipating their new album once my love for their latest album (Melodies) and Ben & Brandon's solo albums had become less of a constant listen. Which took awhile. So, after about 2 weeks of the leak of Incubus' latest album - I told a friend of the situation (MAN - I'm such a snitch) - and he downloaded it. Obviously my ears/mind was extremely jealous and I told myself I wasn't going to give in and listen to it until I received it in the mail. As I had already pre-ordered it - regardless the order was cancelled somehow - and in a somewhat karmic way, I'm glad it was. As they say: "everything moves in circles".   ......alas; I gave in while hanging with him and it definitely ruined the experience. And regardless of your opinions of the tone of INN,W? - it is - like MOST of their music - extremely profound in its own, unique way. I personally appreciate it a lot and it's a refreshing change from the rest of their catalogue.

So thank you Incubus for the latest beautiful letter you wrote to me (yes, just me!) - and maybe your fans also. I admire it to a great extent. Well, that concludes this message. Contribute what you will my fellow Incubus listeners. I'm going to go now and become a better, more self-controlled person - and keep those fuckers on the world wide web from nudging me to do something I disagree with deep down inside.

Despite the fact I should probably just start writing things in a journal rather than ramble online....I would like to mention also - the same friend that ended up causing me to listen to the album early (& illegally - which I DIDN'T DO BTW) made fun of me when I thought of an idea of creating a group on here for fans to holdout until the release date to actually listen to the album. I ended up creating the group on this site (man, did I feel cool!), but it didn't seem to attract any fans (although I probably should've recruited others and given it more time). Alas, within a week my ears had heard the album and my intentions were ruined. I love Incubus and was actually equally upset to hear their hard work had been stolen and released prematurely. And as much as I tried, I have little influence over the friend who decided to obtain the album early - and as previously mentioned, I gave in and listened to it early too. Regardless - I still support Incubus (financially) by buying your albums and (physically present) seeing you in concert when I have the opportunity. sheesh....I'm gonna go chill now.

Apparently I'm all alone in my shame : (   lol

You aren't alone... however I had purchased the iTunes album as well as a hard copy album from the incubus website before I ever listened to anything online. AND.. I didn't search for it, I happen to subscribe to incubus google alerts and in one of them there was a link contained with the new album for download. I did it, I downloaded it and I waited about a week then I listened to it AND I bawled like a baby. First of all the fact that this album showcases Brandon''s vocal ability, and I have said for years he has the voice of an angel, just solidified that and listening to the immense emotion and the fact that they all pour their hearts into their music not for us but for themselves makes me love them all the more. Anyway, the ups and downs emotionally, for me, when listening to this album are intense, even still. I do remember about 4 or 5 days after listening to the "illegal" download I confessed to my best friend that I felt totally guilty, but at the same time I had already spent the money or at least dedicated that I was buying two versions of the album so I was trying to justify my early listening. All in all, I still felt even more intense emotion when I put MY cd in the computer and hit play. I listened to the album and cried many tears... this group of 5 guys, who I really hope to meet some day before I die to thank them, do something for/to me that no other band has or ever will do. Something draws me in so deep and just has it's clutches on me. I love them and I too am sorry for listening before the official release date! ;) A very very happy and dedicated fan!

Wow. It's definitely reassuring to hear that I'm not the only odd one "out there" who felt guilty and wanted to share their thoughts in this manner/ forum. I feel unusually confessional having created this thread. Hopefully through our keyboards "we" are all able to comfortably share our misdeeds and find a method to not repeat them. I know piracy is no crying matter, but it's good to resist the act of stealing another's hard work, even if it's intangible thoughts. And I certainly agree with your statements regarding how complex the album is. They definitely touched on some universal and, I'm certain, very personal subject areas. INN,W?, Isadore, The Original, Defiance, In the Company of Wolves, Adolescents, and Surface to Air spoke the most to me on many different levels and are such amazing songs in multiple rights. And of course Thieves is an extremely complex and heavy song. Not really a fan of the "God fearing, WHITE (?) American" line though. I understand the lyric's meaning, just not the generalizing. Regardless and as always I look forward to what uncharted territory they venture into next. So...thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope you get to see them this fall on tour, as do I! That is if I didn't have to sell my pit ticket to a distant venue because I moved : (  Hopefully I'll be able to find another affordable method and be there. If not though, it's not the end of the world : )
