Comment by Eric McCorkel on September 12, 2011 at 11:50pm Okay.. I'll try to again--the CONCERT itself:
I'm currently obsessed with "Adolescents," and I attribute that mostly to how much I loved the song live. Just phenomenal. Actually, I was really impressed with all 7 of the songs played from INNW, they translate so well to the concert experience! Missed the title track though... would have loved having it, but yet I really enjoyed "The Original." "Anna Molly" really hit me for some reason also! Such a great tune. The assault of "Privilege," "Consequence," and "Green" had me feelin' mighty fine, so much nostalgia. I got into the band upon Make Yourself's release when I was 12. I would have preferred any other song off S.C.I.E.N.C.E. to "Green," but it is undeniably a treat! Would have been cool to hear it acoustically though.. and I guess this acoustic performance of "Stellar" was the first in a long time? One of the highlights of the night for me... really fantastic. Mikey is so great, but didn't really show off at any particular time during the show, but his mastery comes across so well in the acoustic set, remarkable. "Defiance" is another of my favorites at the moment, truly shined in the set as well. Brandon sounds as great as ever, to no one's surprise. I'm glad they have been throwing in some different songs to play acoustically, I feel they should do 3 or 4 every night! "Punch Drunk" has long been a favorite of mine, so that was a pleasant song for me personally. I feel that "Quicksand" would have added a punch to AKTSUO, but it still delivers regardless. "Switchblade" was so good! Love the outro they added to it... one of the best off INNW no doubt. Also, glad they put "Are You In?" in the encore... 3 song encores are a must! And "Tomorrow's Food"... that video montage was simply stunning to me. Reminded me of the feeling I had in 2002 seeing "Aqueous Transmission" close the set. Really made me feel every emotion known to man in a 2 or 3 minute span. These guys are professional through and through, completely love their art. Given the fact that I love all 7 of their albums plus everything else, I would inevitably love to see more variation in their setlists, but at least their rotating about 3 slots a night, and been playing a little bit of everything over the past month in doing so. Love to you my friends, hope you enjoyed it
Comment by Eric McCorkel on September 12, 2011 at 11:05pm Firstly, I'd like to say that I'm glad you got what you wanted in "The Original," Kat! Though I feel it was among the least well received by the audience.
Anthony, so cool that you were @ EFactory in '07 for that insane concert. "Paper Shoes" & "Blood On The Ground"... woo! Though I must say, when I saw them later in '07 @ Festival Pier, I was entirely underwhelmed by the experience; setlist, but mostly the crowd given it was encore night and mostly casual, intoxicated beyond reason fans. Now to talk about this past Saturday while it is fresh and steamin'...
I must say that every concert I've gone to this year has hit me massively like a ton of bricks the following day, as though I'm not grateful enough in the actual moment to be completely present, which irritates me... this is no exception--as I was going to bed around 4:30am on Saturday I had a huge smile on my face reliving "Consequence," "Stellar," etc. I was in the pit, got in as SOON as they walked out on stage (was outside for over an hour trying to sell my pit ticket to no avail, save for assclowns offering $5-$10) and moved toward the center. Crowd was mostly very into it from my perspective, you can't expect people to go nuts the whole time, and why would you want this? Biggest complaint is the barrier toward the back of the pit, which has a platform on the ground and made standing there very difficult, especially when people have no concept of personal space.... so enough bitching, but my back was killing me and I was aggravated for not having gotten rid of my extra ticket, so these things bummed me a bit.
The PERFORMANCE itself was damn good, great great energy from these boys after 20 years. No drum solo or extended bits of any song were a let down, but here's what I LOVED:
[note, I just accidentally lost the second half of my posting... and I'm feeling ill so I give up]
